Russia and Kazakhstan Sign Intergovernmental Agreement on Balkhash Nuclear Power Plant Construction

Russia and Kazakhstan have signed an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of the Balkhash nuclear power plant. The signing ceremony took place during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Kazakhstan.
The document outlines the key parameters of the future facility. The new plant will operate using Russia’s most advanced technological solutions, including its IT infrastructure. The station will consist of two Russian-designed power units equipped with VVER-1200 reactors. The agreement covers key areas of cooperation during the plant’s operation, including maintenance services and fuel supplies.
Specialists are currently conducting the necessary site studies at the location where the new nuclear power plant will be built.
