Russia Develops AI-Powered Digital Tools for Environmental Protection

Russia’s environmental watchdog is advancing its digital transformation with new professional standards and artificial intelligence initiatives.

Rosprirodnadzor, Russia’s environmental regulatory agency, is pushing ahead with the digitalization of its operations, including the integration of artificial intelligence and the adoption of new professional standards. Deputy Director Vladimir Chernyshov told the agency’s Scientific and Technical Council that the proposed environmental job standards have already undergone public consultation and are now being revised based on feedback. He emphasized that the work is being built from scratch, making the input of scientists and industry experts essential for effective outcomes.

A new section within the Council, titled 'Artificial Intelligence for Environmental Solutions,' has been created to explore real-world use cases of AI in conservation. According to its curator, Artem Bulatov, the group will focus on developing applied scenarios, adapting legal regulations, and implementing digital technologies in environmental protection efforts.

These initiatives underscore Russia’s increasing investment in AI-driven tools designed to make environmental regulation more effective and future-ready.
