Russia Rolls Out Digital Logbooks for Maritime Transport

A subsidiary of Sovcomflot has developed certified software for electronic ship logbooks, bringing Russia's maritime industry closer to full digitalization.
Russia’s transport sector is undergoing a broad digital transformation, with maritime shipping now joining the trend. Sovcomflot’s subsidiary, SKF TM, has created software for managing electronic ship logbooks, which has received a type approval certificate from the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping. The certification confirms compliance with international standards, according to First Technical.
The system’s core functions include automated data collection from onboard systems, manual entry and editing of records, change tracking with electronic signatures, secure transmission of data to company offices, backup and data protection, and full offline operation.
Switching to digital logbooks reduces the time crews spend on paperwork, improves the accuracy of record-keeping, and ensures complete transparency of operations. This is crucial, as a ship’s logbook is a legally binding document.
The rollout of this software marks another step in the digital transformation of Russia’s maritime transport, enhancing its competitiveness on the global stage.
