Russia to Integrate Artificial Intelligence into Forensic Examinations

Researchers in St. Petersburg are developing AI-powered tools to boost the accuracy of forensic analysis and create a unified national review system.

Experts from the St. Petersburg Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and the Russian Forensic Chamber have launched a joint project to modernize forensic work with cutting-edge technology. One of the initiative’s main goals is to design and implement artificial intelligence systems to improve the precision of forensic research.

The organizations aim to promote the active adoption of scientific advances in digital technology, genomics, and big data analytics. They will also focus on developing new methods for assessing the scientific validity of expert reports and on training the next generation of professionals through internships and advanced education programs.

A key element of the collaboration will be building a unified review system for forensic reports. According to TASS, the measure is intended to standardize the quality of expert conclusions used in investigative and judicial proceedings.

Surveys in Russia have repeatedly shown that citizens already trust neural networks with routine tasks such as template-based text writing, file and product sorting, and document verification for errors and compliance.

Integrating AI into forensic analysis is expected to significantly speed up data processing, improve the quality of assessments, and raise the skill level of future forensic experts.
