In 2026, the Bugulma-based TatNIPIneft Institute plans to release a new batch of its proprietary downhole measurement systems. The instruments track pressure and temperature in oil wells in real time, enabling more flexible production control and stronger industrial safety, industry outlet Devon reported.

The project’s uniqueness lies in its closed-loop production model, covering everything from engineering design to equipment installation in wells. All stages of manufacturing are carried out at the institute’s pilot facilities under the direct supervision of the technology’s developers.

Particular attention is drawn to a system designed for wells equipped with packers. The unit can be installed and removed without shutting down the well. It does not require specialized repair crews, significantly reducing both time and costs.

Built to Withstand Extreme Pressure

Since 2024, more than 180 such systems have been operating successfully at Tatneft’s oil fields. The equipment is designed to withstand extreme pressure of up to 40 MPa and is rated for a service life of at least eight years.

Data collected in real time are transmitted to the company’s unified digital platform. Continuous diagnostics and remote monitoring make it possible to respond instantly to any changes.

The development received the top award at the Tatarstan Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Forum–2025.

Earlier, we reported that researchers at RN-GIR, a research center within Rosneft, developed the RN-AutoBalance software suite. The system optimizes oil extraction by analyzing well data and reservoir conditions.
