Russian Energy Agency Demonstrates AI Use for Scientific Data
Representatives of the Russian Government’s Center for Scientific and Technological Development and TsITiS reviewed the Russian Energy Agency’s experience using AI to digitize scientific and technical information.

As a federal body within Russia’s state scientific and technical information system, the Russian Energy Agency holds one of the country’s largest collections of such data, including materials in the Ediny spravochno-informatsionny fond (Unified Reference and Information Collection). The agency is now using AI to speed up digitization: the technology processes catalog cards, correctly recognizing 96.9% of them on the first attempt, at a rate of up to 7,000 items per day. The next stage will involve digitizing the documents themselves.
Interest in the agency’s work is tied to the Razvitiye nauchno-tekhnicheskikh bibliotek (Development of Scientific and Technical Libraries) federal project, created in 2024 at the initiative of President Vladimir Putin.
