Russian Microchips Power New Automotive Control Unit

Kaspersky Lab and Kraftway have unveiled a prototype automotive ECU built entirely on Russian-made microelectronics, marking a key step toward domestic control systems for cars and public transport.

At the Kazan Digital Week forum, Kaspersky Lab and Kraftway presented a prototype electronic control unit (ECU) for vehicles, fully based on Russian electronic components. Domestic parts are the main distinction from the version introduced a year earlier.

The new gateway integrates with a telematics unit on a single platform and is positioned as the foundation for a secure national transportation management system. Its key features include access control for vehicle functions, protection of internal and external communication channels, trusted boot, secure data storage, and safe wireless updates.

The device is currently being tested with Kaspersky Lab’s Russian operating system. The plan is to use the mass-production version of this ECU not only in cars but also across other types of transport.

Last year, the security gateway was developed for the Russian electric vehicle Atom. Starting mid-2025, the car is expected to go into production at the Moskvich plant.
