Russian Online Education Market Sees Steady Growth

Short courses and flexible payment plans are on the rise, while edtech companies explore new sales channels
Russia’s online education sector is continuing its upward trajectory. According to a Smart Ranking study, total revenue for the country’s top 100 edtech companies reached 34.2 billion rubles (about $390 million) in Q2 2025 — a 10% increase year-over-year. Leading the pack is online school Skyeng, posting 3 billion rubles in revenue and overtaking Synergy University. Skillbox Holding claimed third place, while Yandex Practicum held steady in fourth. In the children’s education segment, UmSchool stood out for its rapid growth in preparing students for Russia’s standardized exams.
Analysts say consumer preferences are shifting toward shorter programs and niche, instructor-led courses. Flexible formats that deliver in-demand skills quickly are now in high demand.
Russia’s edtech market continues to evolve, adapting to changing user needs and experimenting with new marketing tools. Experts predict growth will remain strong, fueled by a diverse range of educational products and expanded payment options for learners.
