Russian Scientists Develop AI Algorithm to Find Gold Deposits

Researchers in Perm have created an AI-powered system that can pinpoint high-gold-content areas with up to 90% accuracy, potentially transforming mineral exploration.

Experts at Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU) have designed an innovative deposit analysis system capable of identifying areas with high gold concentrations with 90% accuracy and medium-content zones with 89% accuracy.

These impressive results are possible thanks to a combination of artificial intelligence, geographic information systems, and geological survey data. The algorithm not only detects ore but also evaluates its composition, tectonic features, and magnetic survey data. It can even forecast the economic feasibility of mining a site, allowing unprofitable areas to be ruled out early and cutting exploration costs.

Field tests confirmed the system’s precision: predicted points matched actual mining zones. According to the developers, the technology can also be adapted to locate other valuable minerals, opening new horizons for the geological exploration industry.

Previously, Russia introduced Proex-Geology, an advanced IT platform that dramatically speeds up the search for diamond deposits. The system performs the work of multiple specialists at once — geologist, prospector, and forecaster.
