Russian Telecom Operators Evolve into Full-Fledged IT Companies

Beeline CEO Sergey Anokhin says the future of telecom in Russia lies in deep integration with IT, driven by cloud services, cybersecurity, and corporate solutions.
Telecom operators in Russia are rapidly transforming into IT companies, with traditional connectivity becoming just one part of a broader digital portfolio. According to Beeline CEO Sergey Anokhin, the industry's main growth areas include the corporate sector, cloud technologies, and the fight against cybercrime, as reported by Expert.
Anokhin noted that operators are expanding their services to cover nearly every aspect of customers’ digital lives—from payment systems to digital hygiene monitoring. Beeline is investing in cloud solutions, advertising platforms, and startups through its corporate venture fund Hive, while also strengthening partnerships with virtual mobile operators.
User protection remains a top priority. Built-in antivirus tools, spam call blocking, and Beeline’s 'Label' service help customers avoid digital threats. In June alone, the company blocked 6.5 million suspicious calls.
Russia’s radio-electronics industry is also gaining momentum. Beeline collaborates with domestic developers, including the Bureau 1440 consortium, which is building a satellite internet service for remote regions.
Anokhin believes that no additional government regulation is needed for the telecom market, citing existing competition and antitrust measures as sufficient. He emphasized that operators are also taking on social responsibilities, such as maintaining connectivity during crises.
For Anokhin, the future of telecom lies in its fusion with IT, where security, quality, and innovation will define success.
