Russia's Mining Industry Embraces AI and Digital Twins to Boost Efficiency

As mining's economic impact grows, Russia turns to digital technologies—like AI and 3D modeling—to solve long-standing challenges in extraction and logistics.
Top Russian mining companies will convene at the upcoming NEDRA 4.0 congress to discuss digital transformation in the industry. The agenda includes state-of-the-art tech solutions and the development of digital twins for industrial facilities.
Mining plays a significant role in the Russian economy, accounting for roughly one-third of the stock market’s capitalization and contributing between 9% and 13% of the national GDP. Yet the sector still struggles with challenges in productivity, jobsite monitoring, transport infrastructure, and resource discovery. Digital tools are now seen as essential for tackling these issues, prompting a steady increase in tech investments.
Scheduled for February next year in St. Petersburg, NEDRA 4.0 will serve as a hub for dialogue among mining executives, IT developers, researchers, and equipment manufacturers. Discussions will focus on the integration of 3D modeling, CAD and BIM technologies in resource management, and the application of AI in core operations.
