Rutube Launches Kids Profile With Built-In Content Controls
Russia’s Rutube video platform has introduced a dedicated kids profile across desktop and mobile, giving parents direct control over what their children watch.

Children get a separate ID and a tightly filtered viewing environment, with access limited to content rated 0+, 6+, and moderator-approved 12+ content.
According to the platform, users under 12 can watch cartoons, children’s films, series, fairy tales, blogger videos, and TV broadcasts with comments disabled. The kids profile is free and can be created in two ways. Parents can tap the main account icon and select a preconfigured child avatar, or activate the feature via a banner on videos from the approved content catalog.

Competing for Attention
Rutube is expanding its audience reach. Data from Mediascope shows that in November 2025 the platform’s monthly audience reached 80.6 million users, with a daily audience of 18.9 million.
The launch of a kids profile intensifies competition among Russian video platforms, not only for adult viewers but for the entire family segment. For Rutube, this marks a shift toward a more mature product model, with distinct experiences for children, parents, content creators, and advertisers.
In 2023, the Russian government approved a national Concept for Children’s Information Security, which aims to build a safer digital environment and improve digital literacy. Features like these align with that broader policy push.
Parents now gain a more controlled digital environment for their children. A separate profile, curated content selections, and the removal of comments help reduce exposure to toxic discussions and inappropriate content, which often appear in open platforms.

Growing the Family Audience
Rutube already operates a standalone app, RUTUBE Detyam (RUTUBE for Kids), with its own catalog, search, voice search, favorites, profiles, and parental controls. The new kids profile functionality strengthens the platform’s ability to retain family audiences. When children watch content on Rutube, parents are more likely to remain within the same ecosystem, especially on Smart TVs and tablets.
Kids profiles and parental involvement in content selection increase trust in domestic video platforms. For parents, the value is not just in content variety but in built-in safeguards: age filtering, the absence of comments, and protection against accidental navigation to adult content. Rutube integrates these controls directly into the parent account.

Child Safety by Design
The concept of child information security is being implemented across Russian video platforms. In October 2024, VK Video introduced a “Kids Mode,” allowing users to switch to a child-friendly interface and set a PIN code to prevent children from returning to the main profile. In 2025, VK Video added a full-featured “Kids Profile.” In April 2025, VK Video, together with VK ID, launched tools for creating personalized child profiles, setting age restrictions, tracking viewing history, and showing ad-free content to children. Rutube now offers comparable functionality.
The rollout of a kids profile is a logical step for Rutube as its audience grows and competition with VK Video, YouTube, and streaming services intensifies. In the near term, further parental control features are likely, including PIN codes, time limits, viewing history, age-based settings, search restrictions, and personalized recommendations for different age groups. Both manual and algorithmic moderation of the kids catalog are also expected to strengthen, as the quality of filtering will ultimately determine parental trust.
