Sber has launched a service that enables users to return transfers received via the Faster Payments System directly within its mobile app. If money is sent to the wrong account, the recipient can send it back immediately.

The bank said users no longer need to search for the sender or contact support. The entire process is handled within the app, without additional steps or contact lookups.

“This makes it possible to instantly return mistakenly sent funds to the sender, while also reducing the risk of falling victim to fraud or becoming an unwitting intermediary,” the bank said.

Ten Days to Act

The feature is available for ten days after the transfer is credited. Once confirmed, the money is automatically returned to the same account from which it was sent.

The service is free of charge and does not affect transfer limits. All operations are carried out within the banking app.

Built-In Protection

Transfers via the Faster Payments System have become widespread, and mistakes occur regularly. Previously, users had to contact the sender or resolve the issue through the bank.

“Millions of Russians use the Faster Payments System. The new return service ensures funds are sent back strictly to the original card, without searching for the sender’s contact details and without the risk of transferring money to accounts controlled by fraudsters. Our goal is to enable users to safely correct mistakes or respond to fraud attempts directly in the app in just a few clicks. Today, Sber is the most secure bank on the Russian market, with our anti-fraud system achieving 99.99% effectiveness, one of the highest rates globally,” said Stanislav Kuznetsov, deputy chairman of Sberbank’s management board.
