KIT Puts Logistics on Digital Rails

Transport company KIT is betting on the Russian Veeroute platform to modernise delivery planning. The system takes over one of logistics' most complex tasks by automatically building delivery routes while accounting for hundreds of variables, from traffic congestion to cargo dimensions and loading crews.

Transport company KIT has begun full-scale deployment of an automated urban route planning system based on the Russian Veeroute platform. The solution is already operating across Russia's Northwestern Federal District and is being evaluated in other regions. The company plans to connect its entire network to the platform by September 2026.

The technology automatically assigns delivery orders to vehicles and determines the optimal sequence of delivery stops. When calculating routes, the system accounts for current traffic conditions, customer delivery time windows, vehicle payload capacity, cargo characteristics, site access restrictions, as well as loading, unloading, the availability of handling crews, and specialised equipment. At its core is a mathematical engine comprising more than 200 algorithms and their variations, enhanced with geospatial data, traffic statistics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence capabilities.

The most immediate practical benefit is a reduction in end-to-end planning time from more than two hours to just five minutes, while route calculation itself takes only two to three minutes. For Russia's transport logistics sector, this represents a tangible shift toward industrial-scale automation. For customers, it means more accurate delivery windows and fewer delays. For logistics operators, it reduces non-productive mileage, improves fleet utilisation, and lowers operating costs.

From One Federal District to a Nationwide Network

KIT's next step is to scale the platform across Moscow and the Central Federal District before expanding to the rest of the country. If the rollout proceeds successfully, the company will be able to standardise delivery planning across multiple cities while reducing dependence on the experience of individual dispatchers.

The technology is not limited to a single transport operator. Its capabilities are also applicable to retailers, courier services, industrial companies, field service organisations, cash-in-transit providers, and waste collection operators.

Veeroute is positioned as a modular platform that can be integrated with corporate ERP and TMS systems. Within the domestic market, automated route planning is particularly valuable for last-mile delivery, distribution from logistics centres, regional fleet management, transport demand modelling, and delivery time-window management.

The Road to Smarter Logistics

Veeroute's deployment at KIT represents a logical continuation of Russia's broader digital transformation in transport logistics. In 2023, Syngenta implemented the 1C:TMS Logistika. Upravleniye Perevozkami (1C:TMS Logistics. Transportation Management) system, reducing order processing time by 60% and improving management of complex routes by 73%. That same year, X5 Transport developed a navigation solution for drivers based on the Yandex Maps API, further advancing the transition of freight transport to digital platforms. In 2024, VisionLabs and Q-Systems introduced an in-plant logistics solution combining computer vision with intelligent queue management to reduce waiting times and improve safety.

In 2025, Magnit announced plans to introduce automated route planning across all 42 of its distribution centres, highlighting that such technologies are becoming core infrastructure for large retail networks. In 2026, retail chain Monetka began automating deliveries using TMS Magenta: its daily route network is now calculated in five to seven minutes, total mileage has been reduced by 6%, and 11% of its vehicle fleet has been released for other operations without reducing delivery volumes. Against that backdrop, KIT is continuing the industry's broader transition toward systematic logistics automation.

Precision as a Competitive Advantage

KIT's adoption of the Veeroute platform reflects the transition of Russian logistics from manual planning to data-driven management based on mathematical models. Over the next several years, systems of this type are expected to become a standard component of TMS platforms used by major carriers, retailers, and delivery companies. Competition among software developers will increasingly focus on the accuracy of constraint modelling, the speed of route recalculation when conditions change, the depth of integration with enterprise systems, and the ability to respond quickly to traffic congestion, order cancellations, and fleet changes. The primary benefit for the market will be higher productivity without a proportional increase in the number of logistics planners, drivers, or vehicles.

For a transport company, route planning is not a supporting function but one of the key drivers of both service quality and transportation economics. As a network expands and the number of orders and customer scenarios grows, it becomes impossible to scale efficiency by relying solely on manual planning and the experience of individual employees. A unified system is needed – one that analyses a vast number of routing options within minutes, accounts for dozens of operational constraints, and recommends the most efficient solution
