Moscow Schools Use Digital Tools to Build and Manage Library Collections

A new service in the Moscow Electronic School platform now automates textbook ordering and library management for teachers, principals, and librarians

Digital Tools Replace Manual Requests

Russian teachers can now place online orders for printed textbooks and manage library inventories through the Moscow Electronic School (MES). The new Educational Literature Fund module allows teachers to submit requests, principals to approve orders, and librarians to maintain full digital records of the school’s book collection.

According to the Moscow Department of Education and Science, the process of obtaining textbooks has become significantly more convenient. There is no longer a need to write manual requests, and the electronic database simplifies book exchanges between classes. Librarians now benefit from easier, faster reporting processes as well.

A Platform Used by Millions

The Moscow Electronic School — a joint project of the city’s Department of Education and Department of Information Technologies — has been operating since 2016. Over the years, it has evolved into a full-scale digital educational ecosystem.

Today, MES serves 1.2 million students and 1.8 million parents. The platform is also being adopted by other regions of Russia looking to modernize their digital education systems.
