Neural Network in Russia Monitors Food Quality and Market Transparency

Technologies behind Merkurii and analytics systems help detect and eliminate violations in the food industry.

Russia is increasingly using digital technologies to monitor the circulation of food products. In the Tver region, artificial intelligence built into the Merkurii (Mercury) helped expose an unscrupulous enterprise. The system detected errors in a declaration for pork: frozen products were listed as “cooled.”

“This is a clear example of how digital tools have become our main ally in ensuring market transparency,” said Elena Lapina, head of the territorial office of Rosselkhoznadzor. “Artificial intelligence analyzes thousands of transactions, instantly identifying inconsistencies that a human might miss. Such data distortions mislead both regulators and consumers, undermine traceability, and discredit bona fide market participants.”

Not an Isolated Case

A similar incident occurred in Yakutia last year. An employee issued a certificate listing beef, although pork was actually used in production. The violation was also detected by artificial intelligence integrated into the Merkurii system.

In the Irkutsk region, since the beginning of 2026, an intelligent module within the Merkurii veterinary certification system has identified more than 160,000 violations related to the issuance and closure of electronic veterinary accompanying documents.
