Russian Regions Expand the Use of Drones
Krasnoyarsk Krai is set to host its first specialized training program for young UAV professionals.
The use of unmanned aerial vehicles is expanding across Russia. Regions are rolling out modern technologies in public safety, forestry, road monitoring, construction, and even the protection of cultural heritage sites.
Plans for 2026 were outlined by the Ministry of Digital Development of Krasnoyarsk Krai. The region intends to purchase new aircraft for its Ministry of Ecology, emergency response agency, and Ministry of Construction, while also developing new scenarios for UAV deployment.
This year, the region will host its first specialized session on unmanned aerial systems at the All-Russian educational forum TIM Biryusa. The program will bring together university students and young professionals from regional enterprises.
Training a New Generation of Specialists
The regional science fund is set to launch a project competition focused on UAV technologies. Authorities are also updating legislation to allow drones to be used across a wider range of activities, including regulatory oversight. In parallel, a list of designated areas is being created where UAVs can be flown for educational and sports projects.
Krasnoyarsk Krai is also opening modern laboratories where students can acquire hands-on drone skills, including at a forestry technical college in Divnogorsk. The new training site has been equipped with quadcopters, simulators for studying aerodynamics, assembly, programming, electronics, and diagnostics of unmanned systems. The college has also built a flight zone and a dedicated drone racing course.
Today, unmanned systems have become part of everyday life in Russia’s regions. Their use is growing steadily, while young people are gaining access to in-demand and engaging career paths.
