Researchers in Samara have developed two digital assistants powered by artificial intelligence to support physicians in identifying breathing issues and analyzing patients’ sleep stages, the regional Ministry of Education and Science said.

Analyze EEG Data and Detect Breathing Disorders

The AI assistants simultaneously analyze electroencephalogram (EEG) data and detect breathing abnormalities. They have been tested on real-world datasets and demonstrated strong performance.

One assistant automatically identifies breathing problems based on audio recordings. It converts sound data into visual representations and then processes them using AI. The second assistant analyzes polysomnography data and classifies sleep stages using deep learning methods.

Accessible Diagnostics

The developers plan to conduct clinical trials and integrate the assistants into regional medical information systems. This could make diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders more accessible to residents.

Earlier reports said specialists at Samara State Medical University are developing a system using webcams and computer vision to objectively assess the condition of patients’ lower limbs during rehabilitation.
