Autonomous Rail System Model for BAM Showcased at St. Petersburg Forum
Railway developers presented prototypes and simulators highlighting the future of unmanned and high-speed transport.

RZD’s locomotive engineering bureau unveiled a model of an autonomous rail system for the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) at the International Transport and Logistics Forum in St. Petersburg. Visitors can watch a miniature mainline diesel freight locomotive pulling railcars, while a model of Russia’s first high-speed electric train has also drawn strong interest, according to Gudok newspaper.
Participants from China lined up to receive personalized Troika transport cards, while international visitors showed similar interest in a full-scale simulator of the ES2G Lastochka train.
Baltiets and Tango
Visitors can also try operating rolling stock through simulators. A virtual journey along the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD-4) line is available via the Ivolga 4.0 simulator.
A VR simulator of the Baltiets train was also presented. These trains are becoming increasingly common in the St. Petersburg metro. The simulator requires only a PC, software and VR headset, and the technology is already being used for training in other industries, including mining.
A BAZ-535A11 tractor unit and a Tango training aircraft for pilot instruction also proved popular as photo spots.
