China Takes Interest in Russia’s Use of IT in Forestry
During a meeting with a delegation from Sichuan Province, Russian officials presented their progress in digitalizing forest management, including AI-driven monitoring and drone-based surveys.

Russia and China are deepening cooperation across multiple fields, and forestry is no exception. A Chinese delegation from Sichuan Province visited Russia to study how IT tools are being applied to forest conservation and management. The talks highlighted the importance of sharing expertise, particularly in areas such as remote monitoring of forest resources and the gradual integration of artificial intelligence into the sector.
Both sides presented research findings on forest studies, covering ground-based techniques as well as digital tools. Among them were smart drones capable of tracking forest distribution, tree height, canopy width, and overall ecological health.
Officials said the agreements reached at the meeting would strengthen bilateral cooperation in forestry and ecological protection going forward.
