Drones and AI Begin Inspecting Housing Renovation Quality on Sakhalin
Inspecting a single building takes no more than 15 minutes.

Engineers at the Sakhalin Region Capital Repair Fund have introduced a new quality-control system for renovation work in apartment buildings. The system is designed to identify defects left by contractors. Buildings are inspected using drones equipped with machine-vision technology that can detect construction flaws.
Sakhalin Region Housing and Utilities Minister Dmitry Aristarkhov said the drone-and-AI combination will initially be used to monitor warranty obligations following renovation projects carried out under the national Infrastructure for Life program.
Artificial intelligence makes the inspection process faster and more efficient. A human inspector may spend several hours examining a single building, while the automated system can complete the same task in 15 minutes or less. Over time, the inspections are expected to expand across the entire region, including the Kuril Islands.
