Russia Launches Pilot Platform to Shield Government and Banks from Cyberattacks

A new 10-month test will bring together major government bodies and financial institutions to trial a unified cybersecurity defense system.

Russia has launched a pilot project to test an integrated platform aimed at protecting state and banking systems from cyberattacks. The initiative, which will run for ten months, involves key federal players including the Ministries of Digital Development and Internal Affairs, the Federal Security Service (FSB), the General Prosecutor’s Office, the National Payment Card System, and representatives from the banking sector.

The test phase includes online exercises designed to assess how the new Russian-built cybersecurity platform performs under simulated attacks. Experts will identify which data parameters need the most urgent protection and determine the most effective defense mechanisms. The project will also refine how agencies coordinate responses—clarifying responsibilities and response protocols.

Combating digital crime is a top priority in Russia, where losses from online fraud are estimated in the trillions of rubles. A robust security platform could not only slow the growth of cybercrime but also support the digital development of businesses and government services.

Since 2024, Russia has been operating under a national framework for countering cybercrime involving information and communication technologies.
