Russia Maps Digital Priorities for Machine-Building
At the “Future of Russian Machine-Building” conference in Moscow, participants used interactive digital tools to set priorities for technological sovereignty and workforce skills.

Russia is charting a digital path for its machine-building sector, with young scientists and industry leaders weighing in on what skills the next generation of engineers must master.
The 18th annual gathering, organized by the Union of Machine Builders of Russia and Bauman Moscow State Technical University, replaced formal reports with live polls, QR voting, and case challenges. Students proposed real-time solutions to industrial problems, while executives from major corporations such as Rostec offered immediate feedback.
Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov, in his opening remarks, called machine-building “the pride and technological backbone of Russia,” saying the work of young engineers strengthens the state and demonstrates patriotism in action.
Debates among participants tackled the sector’s key dilemmas: automation versus workforce development, and import substitution versus international cooperation.
