Russia to Develop Personal Satellite Communications System
A new network aims to enable short messaging and provide nationwide coverage across the country

Gonets Satellite System, a company operating under Roscosmos, said it is developing a personal satellite communications and data transmission system focused on low- and medium-speed connectivity.
Speaking at the 18th International Satellites conference, CEO Andrey Manoilo said the multifunctional system will primarily target voice satellite communications and low- to medium-speed data transmission.
Launch of Gonets 2.0
The constellation for the personal satellite communications and data system is set to operate in orbit at an altitude of about 750 km, with a larger number of satellites and global coverage. It will include the full range of services under the Gonets 2.0 system. The new network is expected to meet demand for short message transmission and provide coverage across all of Russia. The system may also be made available to international partners.
Earlier reports indicated that the Gonets 2.0 satellite system will provide continuous connectivity for drones across the entire territory of Russia.
