Emergency responders in Russia’s Kamchatka region have received ZALA ZARYA unmanned aerial systems. The new equipment can be fitted with thermal imagers, alert systems, and dosimeters, and can also incorporate artificial intelligence.

The regional branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry told IT-Russia how the systems are expected to support rescue operations.

Catapult Launch

Rescue center staff have already tested the ZALA ZARYA-1 and ZARYA-1M systems. Unlike conventional drones, they can operate far from base stations for extended periods and do not expend energy on takeoff, as they are launched via catapult. The maximum flight range of ZALA ZARYA is about 50 kilometers.

These drones have already proven effective in Russia’s emergency services. Kamchatka rescue personnel were trained to use the new equipment by instructors through a series of theoretical and practical sessions.

Volcanoes, Floods, Mountains, and Forests

The drones will be used to monitor active volcanoes, track flood conditions, and survey areas at risk of wildfires. The systems will also support real-time coordination and adjustment of rescue and search operations in Kamchatka’s forests and mountainous regions.

Earlier reports said researchers at North Caucasus Federal University in the Stavropol region had begun developing new drone models, including cargo delivery systems and agricultural drones for fertilizer application.
