Russian Developer Builds Cybersecurity System for Maritime Shipping
Kaspersky Lab has had its antivirus technology certified for use in maritime navigation.

Kaspersky Lab, a developer of cybersecurity systems, has introduced a solution designed specifically for maritime shipping, the company said in a statement. One of the first in Russia to do so, the firm has received certification from the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, confirming that its technologies meet information security requirements for vessels.
Such solutions are increasingly in demand. Cybercriminals can interfere with onboard digital systems, disrupt GPS signals, deploy ransomware, and cause failures that not only disrupt operations but can also lead to a vessel effectively being taken over.
At Sea and in Space
Kaspersky Lab’s technologies are designed to protect ships from cyber intrusions. According to Anna Kulashova, the company’s vice president for business development in Russia and the CIS, maritime cybersecurity is a relatively new area for the team, but the certification underscores the quality of the antivirus solutions developed.
Earlier, the Russian developer also announced an antivirus system that is set to be deployed in space to protect a Russian microsatellite.
