Russia’s Smart ILS 2700 Systems Help Aircraft Land in Bad Weather
Rostec’s latest equipment enables precise landings in challenging weather conditions.
Russia’s state-owned corporation Rostec is rolling out advanced technologies to improve the safety and reliability of air travel in some of the country’s most challenging regions. At the airport in Novy Urengoy, in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, an intelligent instrument landing system, ILS 2700, developed by the company Azimut, has entered service. The solution allows aircraft to land with high precision even in low-visibility conditions, which is critical for stable aviation operations in the Arctic.
Landing Aircraft in Any Weather
The system transmits precise real-time data to the aircraft, including distance to the runway, deviation from the flight path and the optimal glide slope. Pilots receive all the information they need to safely complete the flight in automatic mode.
Full Redundancy
A key feature of the Russian-developed system is its exceptional reliability and compliance with international ICAO standards. It is built on a principle of full redundancy: if any component fails, its functions are instantly and automatically taken over by a backup module, ensuring uninterrupted operation. In addition, control and diagnostics of ground-based radio beacons are carried out remotely from the airport’s control center, as part of the digital transformation of airfield infrastructure.
Similar systems produced by Rostec are already ensuring flight safety in Chukotka, the Kuril Islands, Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as in Belarus, Armenia and Kazakhstan.
