Alexey Borodin: Russia and CIS Countries Plan to Develop Cross-Border RFID Solutions
Representatives from 120 countries gathered in Moscow from October 8 to 10 for the 2nd Global Digital Forum, where artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital sovereignty are among the main topics.

Participants are discussing international cooperation and ways to narrow the technology gap between countries. Alexey Borodin, Director General of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications, spoke to IT Russia about the first results of this work:
– I am the Director General of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications. It is an intergovernmental coordinating body for the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States. In a broader format, our Commonwealth also includes the Republic of Cuba and Mongolia, while several other countries from our region and beyond participate as observers.
We see that Russian radio technologies are at a fairly mature stage of development and represent homegrown solutions. Today, we signed an agreement with the National Association for the Dissemination of RFID Technologies. These technologies are widely used in logistics, communications, and postal and transportation services. We believe it is essential to ensure technological interoperability among countries in our region as we deploy solutions in postal services, telecommunications and transportation.
The Russian Federation has accumulated considerable experience in implementing pilot projects and using this technology in practice. We see strong interest from other countries in our region in adopting it, and we expect the association to help promote these solutions and bring our regulatory approaches closer together.
These approaches currently differ, but it is important for us to ensure that services can operate across borders. To achieve this, we need to develop complementary regulatory frameworks at the national level. That is what we will work on.
Given the project’s high level of maturity, I think we will not have to wait long for the first results. We expect the first cross-border deployments to appear within a year to a year and a half. We plan to reach that milestone by the end of next year.
