Artificial Intelligence to Assist in Evaluating Nationwide Testing in Russia

Russia has launched an experimental program in which artificial intelligence supports teachers in reviewing student exam papers, aiming to improve fairness, efficiency, and educational quality.

Head of Rosobrnadzor Anzor Muzaev announced that AI will help teachers assess the All‑Russian Verification Works (VPR). In test mode, artificial intelligence will analyze exam papers together with teachers. Final grades will still be assigned by educators, though they may take the AI’s assessment into account.

Objectivity and Transparency

Neural networks are also being used for other exam‑related tasks, such as detecting suspicious student behavior during testing sessions. New technologies additionally compare handwriting samples on exam sheets, helping prevent cases in which someone attempts to take the exam on behalf of a student.

Integrating artificial intelligence into the evaluation of VPR represents a major step toward improving the quality of education. The technology significantly reduces the workload on teachers while increasing the objectivity of grading. AI also strengthens order and security during examinations across Russia.
