Russia to Digitize Pedigree Livestock Records
A unified electronic system will track the registration of breeding animals and maintain records of livestock farms.

All dairy cows in the Kostroma region will be registered in a unified digital system. Governor Sergey Sitnikov has approved the launch of a federal platform for tracking pedigree livestock.
Beginning March 1, mandatory digital registration of breeding animals will be introduced through the Federal State Information and Analytical System for Breeding Resources.
Farmers will be able to replace paper documentation with a transparent digital database that calculates actual breeding value. Agricultural producers will have access to detailed information about animals listed by breeding farms, allowing them to select the most productive breeds. Electronic certificates will also simplify the sale and transportation of livestock.
In addition, the new platform is intended to support applied research and strengthen the competitiveness of Russia’s agro-industrial sector.
Beyond Farm Animals
Earlier reports said Russia is also discussing the creation of a digital registry for pets. The proposal involves introducing a federal registration system where owners would submit information about animals in their care.
Experts say the initiative could help monitor how pets are kept and prevent violations.
