Autonomous River Vessels Are Expected to Appear in Moscow
City officials say unmanned boats could eventually join Moscow’s expanding ecosystem of autonomous transport.

Autonomous transportation is rapidly developing in Moscow. Driverless trams have already entered service, delivery robots are operating on city streets, and the city government plans to introduce the first fully automated metro line by 2030.
Within the next two to three years, autonomous river vessels could also become part of the system. The announcement was made by Maksim Liksutov, Moscow’s deputy mayor for transport and industry.
Trams and Microprojects
For now, there is no specific timeline for implementing the initiative. However, according to Liksutov, autonomous technologies are one of the priority directions in the capital’s transport development strategy, meaning the project is likely to move forward in the near future.
Later this year, Moscow will launch the fourth regular route of its electric river transport network, running between Luzhniki and Kievskiy. The third route—from Novospasskiy to ZIL—is also expected to be extended to the Krasnye Kholmy pier. Maintenance and repair of the electric vessels operating on the city’s regular river routes will now be carried out at the Moscow Shipyard.
Earlier reports said Moscow is introducing a smart management system for its locomotive fleet.
