Brian Kwesiga: Digital Technologies Help Find New Solutions for Journalism
IT and AI experts from 120 countries have gathered at the Mechta venue in Moscow’s Gorky Park for the 2nd Global Digital Forum, which opened in Moscow on October 8.
Guests are exploring how to make the digital environment safe and fair for everyone. Brian Kwesiga, General Director of Mirror Digital Limited (Uganda), spoke to the IT Russia media platform about the forum’s role in advancing digital journalism:
– My company produces news content for online platforms and offers various solutions for content production and videography. We specialize in data journalism. Taking part in the forum gives us an excellent opportunity to learn new things and discuss how this field of journalism can develop.
This is a great platform for professionals who work with digital technologies and develop new solutions. Here, we discuss together how these technologies can be put into practice and deployed. You cannot leave an event like this without taking home new ideas and knowledge. Everyone finds something useful.
Technology companies are showcasing their latest developments here. This allows us to look at familiar things from a different perspective and seek out-of-the-box solutions in the future. I will also be taking home new knowledge and ideas to share with my colleagues and friends.
Of the many topics at the forum, protecting children online is particularly important to me. A session on this issue has already taken place today. We need to understand how to protect children now, because they are the next generation and our future. The conditions we create for them today will largely determine what our society looks like tomorrow. It is also important to figure out how to shield children from information that could harm them.
Another important topic is artificial intelligence. Tomorrow, there will be a major session on AI and related technologies. We need to understand that using AI improperly or without good intentions can have negative consequences. That is why it is important to start exchanging experience and sharing best practices now. I expect this session to be very useful to me.
Finally, I hope that the IT Russia media platform and our company will be able to sign a memorandum of understanding. This would allow us to exchange technologies and solutions for content creation, storytelling and digital journalism. Such cooperation would be very beneficial for our company.
