In Russia, a “Digital Hospital” Is Launched to Train Doctors

Next-generation simulators allow physicians to model and practice both routine procedures and rare, critical clinical scenarios.

Kuban State Medical University is using advanced technologies to train doctors. At the university’s multidisciplinary accreditation and simulation center, residents and practicing physicians train in conditions designed to closely replicate real hospital work.

The center is equipped with state-of-the-art simulators that make it possible to rehearse even rare and high-risk situations, such as airway obstruction or the need for advanced resuscitation. More than 5,000 doctors across 52 medical specialties have already completed retraining programs there.

According to Kuban State Medical University rector Sergei Alekseenko, such technologies allow clinicians to “build muscle memory” in a calm, controlled environment under the guidance of experienced mentors.

Interactive Operating Rooms, Robot Simulators, and Anatomical Tables

Earlier, the publication reported on how senior pediatrics students train using VR headsets, practicing procedures in virtual operating rooms at the Center for Electronic Medical Education of Volgograd State Medical University.

Medical teams are also trained using a simulated intensive care unit built around a robot simulator known as Viktor. At the Kamchatka Medical College, doctors refine essential skills using a life-size adult arm model.

In Dagestan, an interactive anatomical table known as Pirogov-2 has been introduced for medical training. The high-tech simulator allows users to “dissect” organs, study pathologies, and perform virtual surgeries without formalin. The equipment improves training quality while reducing the cost of anatomical preparation and making medical education more visual and accessible.
