Maria Selten: We Must Be Resilient in the Face of Change
The 2nd Global Digital Forum has opened in Moscow, focusing on the future of the digital economy.
Participants are discussing technological infrastructure, digital sovereignty, new IT solutions and international cooperation. They are looking not only at broader trends but also at opportunities to implement specific projects. Maria Selten of Singapore, representing the International Digital Economies Association, spoke to the IT Russia media platform at the forum about digital sovereignty and international cooperation in this area:
– The impressions are incredible. The energy and momentum we feel here are inspiring and open up prospects for future cooperation with colleagues from different countries. For our organization, this is an excellent opportunity to meet colleagues and partners in person and discuss important questions about how the world is changing, how digital transformation is progressing and where it is taking us.
Today, we discussed digital sovereignty and the digital state. This topic is particularly relevant for BRICS countries, among others.
Why is sovereignty so important? The world is evolving in complex and sometimes unpredictable ways, so we must be resilient to any changes. This issue matters not only to BRICS countries or states facing urgent challenges, but to the entire world. Our colleagues from Africa, Nepal and Malaysia, where the IT sector is growing rapidly, are also looking at technological development through the lens of sovereignty.
We discussed the need to develop common approaches and frameworks. Meetings and discussions like these help us think through digital sovereignty together. In this way, while preserving our sovereignty, we are also thinking as a single international community.
