Pedro Piñero Perez: “We Must Embrace New Technologies and Help Shape Their Development While Creating the Necessary Oversight Mechanisms”
The II Global Digital Forum will take place in Moscow on October 8–10 as part of the Digital Solutions IT forum.
Experts from different countries will discuss digital transformation, technological sovereignty, infrastructure and international cooperation in IT, as well as joint projects, digital solution exports and the creation of sustainable partnerships.
Ahead of the forum, Dr. Pedro Yobanis Piñero Perez, coordinator of the IADES ALLIANCE international network, told the online publication IT Russia why new technologies cannot be ignored, why digital literacy needs to be strengthened as misinformation spreads, and what experience from the network could be useful to Russia’s IT industry.
– With the 2nd Global Digital Forum (GDF) just days away, we are filled with a profound sense of anticipation and responsibility. As representatives of IADES ALLIANCE (Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development), an international knowledge network with over 1,400 members from various countries, primarily in Latin America, we are observing with great interest the shaping of the new global digital order. The 2nd Global Digital Forum (GDF) is not merely a gathering of experts; it is a crucial space for defining the future of technological cooperation in a multipolar world.
This forum, held in Moscow at a complex international moment, is impacting the present and future of humanity as disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and the overall development of ICTs are evolving. In this context, contributing to the dissemination of diverse ideas and technological visions is essential. It helps to eliminate communication barriers that obscure the progress and the various paths and approaches to development.
Chile and Latin America are currently navigating a complex geopolitical period, where the misuse of technology influences public opinion through fake news and the creation of artificial profiles. Technology is being used to impact geopolitical shifts and presidential races, exploiting the lack of digital literacy among the population. In this context, it is crucial to contribute to digital literacy, including ICTs, Artificial Intelligence, and other disruptive technologies. It is also important to disseminate information about the technological realities of the BRICS nations and to advance this dissemination through the application of best practices in science.
We could ignore or reject the results of new technologies, but others will develop them, and their results will affect us. We must embrace new technologies and develop them while establishing the necessary controls. We are committed to creating a fairer, more sovereign, and more collaborative digital future.
Participation in the 2nd Global Digital Forum (GDF) will generate new perspectives for the IADES ALLIANCE team in its mission to contribute to the development of Latin America and the other BRICS countries. It will also bring the IADES team closer to Russian culture. This visit will lead to new, concrete commitments.
