Roland Ratia: Protecting Children From Harmful Content Requires a Legal Framework

An agreement aimed at bringing countries together to protect children from harmful online content was signed at the 2nd Global Digital Forum in Moscow.

The agreement is designed to strengthen international cooperation amid the spread of deepfakes, AI-generated content and other information threats facing younger generations. Roland Ratia, deputy chairman of the State Committee for Digital Development of the Republic of Abkhazia, highlighted the importance of the initiative and spoke to IT Russia about efforts to develop national measures to protect children.

– Important developments are taking place, and this agreement deserves due recognition. Protecting younger generations in the digital age is essential. We’re seeing many developments related to artificial intelligence, along with the spread of deepfakes and information that can shape children’s worldviews. Children may have virtually unlimited access to harmful content, which makes protecting them from it especially important.

I believe we’ll see results from the signing of this document in the near future. Our country is also preparing measures to protect children from harmful information. A draft law is already before the Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia and is expected to be adopted soon.

First and foremost, we need a legal framework that will enable the relevant authorities to take specific measures to protect children from material that could harm them.
