Russian Youth Center Opens Drone Lab for Schoolchildren

Students at the All-Russian Children’s Center 'Okean' can now learn the full cycle of working with quadcopters—from assembly and programming to piloting.
The All-Russian Children’s Center 'Okean' has launched a new laboratory for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), where schoolchildren will master every stage of drone work. Training covers building and programming drones, as well as piloting them on a dedicated test field.
The lab is equipped with various types of UAVs: educational models for learning about drone mechanics, and high-speed drones for professional-level training. Some of the drones feature first-person view (FPV) mode, allowing young pilots to see the track through VR goggles as if they were onboard.
The program includes not only hands-on practice but also simulator training, enabling students to hone their flying skills before operating real drones. Participants can configure flight parameters, program routes, adjust lighting, and even develop custom movement algorithms.
Drone skills are in demand across Russia in fields ranging from agriculture to filmmaking. Proficiency in UAV operations opens up new opportunities for students. Next year, the lab plans to install a tunnel-style racing track for high-speed competitions.
Graduates of the program will gain competencies that can serve as a foundation for future careers in IT, engineering, or aeromodeling.
