Russia’s 'Chestny Znak' App Is Set to Become a Digital Nutrition Guide
A new feature will help users assess food composition and choose healthier products.

At the end of December, users of the mobile app for Russia’s state digital product labeling system, Chestny Znak, will gain access to a new feature called What’s in This Product.
The module will go beyond authenticity checks, allowing users to evaluate a product’s nutritional profile and ingredients. The update was announced by Mikhail Dubin, chairman of the board of the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT), the operator of the Chestny Znak system.
Color-Coded Signals for Risks and Benefits
When scanning a product’s labeling code, the new module will display expanded information, including fat levels, added sugar content, the presence of allergens, and food additives marked with “E” codes. Visual indicators using color coding—red, yellow, or green—will help users quickly assess the potential risks or benefits of specific components.
This presentation format makes ingredient analysis accessible to all consumers, without requiring specialized knowledge or third-party services.
Fighting Counterfeits
The Chestny Znak system has been operating in Russia since 2019, tracking products from manufacturer to retail and helping protect consumers from counterfeit and illegal goods. It now covers a growing range of categories, including food products, medicines, dairy items, footwear and others.
By scanning a unique Data Matrix code on packaging, users can already see details such as expiration dates, composition and product origin.
The development of the nutritional assessment feature was made possible through cooperation between CRPT and Rospotrebnadzor, as well as methodological guidelines prepared by Roskachestvo. In 2025, Roskachestvo developed a standardized approach to evaluating the health value of food products for use in digital labeling systems.
Designed With Health in Mind
The new What’s in This Product feature will allow shoppers to compare products based on nutritional characteristics directly within the app—particularly relevant for families and consumers who pay close attention to their diet.
By adding this functionality, Chestny Znak is expanding its role beyond anti-counterfeiting, positioning itself as a daily tool to help consumers choose higher-quality and healthier products.
