Dr. Nkundwe Moses Mwasaga: Countries Can Develop Artificial Intelligence Only by Working Together

The 2nd Global Digital Forum is bringing participants to Moscow. Representatives from different countries are focusing on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, telecommunications infrastructure, and international technology partnerships.

Representatives from Tanzania are taking part in the forum for the second year in a row. Dr. Nkundwe Moses Mwasaga, Director General of Tanzania’s Information and Communication Technologies Commission (ICTC), spoke to the IT Russia media platform about AI development, prospects for cooperation with Russia, and his impressions of the business program.

– This is my second time here. I also took part in the previous forum, and I really like this platform. I believe artificial intelligence is one of the most important technologies today. Many countries are developing AI in the hope that it will stimulate economic growth. At the same time, it is important not only to implement AI but also to ensure it is used safely and to create new jobs.

Tanzania is also seeking to develop artificial intelligence and build a digital society to strengthen its economy and expand employment opportunities. To achieve this, we need partnerships with different countries, including Russia, because advanced technologies can be developed only through joint efforts.

At the same time, it is important to strike a balance between regulation and the freedom to innovate. I believe we can develop common international rules for the use of AI. But I like to use this metaphor in this context: food is wonderful, but you shouldn’t add too much salt, or you could ruin the dish.

We support common rules, but we believe even more strongly in innovation. We need an environment that helps create new businesses and jobs and grow GDP. International standards are possible, but they must not hinder technological development or the adoption of new solutions.

Tanzania has a good partnership with Russia. Countries develop faster when they cooperate, exchange technologies, and work together to improve artificial intelligence. This kind of cooperation helps not only to grow the economy but also to find solutions to global challenges, including food security, pandemics, and climate change.

Cyberspace has no borders, unlike countries. That is why nations cannot act in isolation from one another. We need to cooperate to protect children, create opportunities for future generations, and strengthen cybersecurity. This cooperation builds trust between countries and helps people use the benefits of digital technology safely.

I attended several sessions, and the forum has truly proved to be a global platform where representatives of different countries can meet and exchange ideas. I particularly enjoyed the discussion on AI ethics. The session on telecommunications infrastructure, which is essential for AI development, was also important to me, as was the discussion on digital sovereignty, which helps create a secure environment for innovation.
