Online Olympiad Teaches Russian Students Road Safety Rules
An interactive competition will guide children through real traffic scenarios, helping them adapt to a world where e-scooters and other personal mobility devices share the roads.

From September 23 to October 26, Russia will host a nationwide online Olympiad called “Safe Roads” for students in grades 1–9. The goal is to teach children safe behavior in traffic through a modern, game-like format that reflects the rise of new modes of transport, such as e-scooters, hoverboards, and unicycles.
The old formula of “red means stop, green means go” is no longer enough. Children are now active users of personal mobility devices and full participants in road traffic across complex urban environments. The Olympiad is designed to provide them with essential knowledge and practical skills.
Assignments are tailored to different age groups. Students take on the roles of characters facing common traffic situations. In this interactive format, they learn to make safe decisions: choosing the right route, behaving correctly on busy streets and in residential areas, and accounting for seasonal and time-of-day factors.
The competition highlights Russia’s adoption of advanced educational technologies. Its online format makes learning accessible to students across all regions, while the gamified approach and practical scenarios boost engagement and help children retain vital safety lessons.
