Russian Scientists Just Made Jet Engine Testing 1.5x Faster—with Zero Humans in the Loop

In a powerful move toward industrial automation and tech independence, researchers at Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU) have developed a new software platform that accelerates gas turbine engine (GTE) testing by 50%—and cuts human error out of the equation entirely.

Built in LabVIEW, the system automates the entire GTE stress-testing workflow: controlling valves, pumps, sensors, and setting operational parameters like RPMs, pressure, and temperature—all without an operator on standby. Real-time data analysis flags anomalies instantly, ensuring precision without the lag.

The result? A 30–50% reduction in testing time, faster certification for new engines, and a major productivity boost for Russia’s aerospace sector. The software can easily adapt to various engine types, making it a plug-and-play solution for both R&D and production environments.

Already catching the attention of a major Perm-based aircraft manufacturer under Rostec, the platform represents more than efficiency—it’s a statement of technological sovereignty. With Russia actively decoupling from imported tools under sanctions pressure, homegrown automation like this is mission-critical infrastructure.

“This system doesn’t just save time—it removes the risk of manual error,” said Sergey Storozhev, associate professor at PNRPU’s Department of Automation and Telemechanics.
