Tochukwu Chukwuchebe: It Is Important to Set Boundaries on the Use of Artificial Intelligence

At the 2nd Global Digital Forum, held in Moscow on October 8–10, participants from nearly 120 countries discussed key challenges of our time, from the development of artificial intelligence to data protection and reducing inequality in access to technology.

Tochukwu Chukwuchebe, a Nigerian citizen, shared his impressions with the IT Russia media platform.

I’m originally from Nigeria, but I now live and work in Moscow for a media outlet.

The forum has been amazing. I’ve learned a lot and met many people from both the high-tech industry and the media. Overall, my impressions have been very positive.

There have been many discussions about artificial intelligence, and today I attended a session on the digital economy. I was interested in learning which issues experts consider the most pressing in this field.

Another topic that caught my attention was the ethics of developing and using artificial intelligence. It is important to understand what mechanisms can regulate how AI works and what is and isn’t acceptable.

I use AI tools extensively myself, and I also find myself wondering: where should the limits of their use be drawn? What rules should govern their use? Companies developing these technologies are already creating AI usage strategies and defining the limits of what their systems can do.

I believe generative models can pose a serious danger when they fall into the hands of inexperienced users. People don’t always understand when to stop or what risks are associated with using artificial intelligence.

That is why I think it is a good thing that companies themselves are beginning to set certain boundaries and restrictions, explaining when artificial intelligence is useful and when using it can be dangerous.”
