Russia Unveils Signal Compensation System for Precision Drone Control

A new system developed by Moscow Aviation Institute allows drones to be operated accurately despite a signal delay of up to two seconds.

Engineers at Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) have developed a real-time signal compensation technology that enables precise control of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) even when experiencing signal delays of up to two seconds, according to the tech outlet Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy.

Signal delays are especially critical during challenging weather conditions or in the event of primary control system failures. The MAI system features real-time operation capabilities including multi-layered flight path prediction and dynamic correction of displayed flight parameters. It is adaptable to various types of aircraft and accounts for the operator's psychophysiological characteristics, enhancing human-system interaction.

Previously, similar algorithms were only used in spaceflight applications, where delays exceeding one second made manual docking impossible. The updated system has now been repurposed for drone aviation where even minor lags can significantly affect flight accuracy.

The new system is already being implemented in projects involving heavy transport aircraft and UAVs providing reliable landing capabilities when primary systems fail.

This is a fully domestically developed solution and marks a major step toward import-independent, high-precision, real-time aerial control systems.
