Russia Unveils Its First Smart Grinding Complex for Aircraft Parts

Rostec’s STAN Holding introduces SXS 512 — Russia’s first five-axis automated grinding system designed for high-precision aircraft component finishing.

Russia has developed its first fully automated grinding complex for the aviation industry, according to the state corporation Rostec. The machine, designated SXS 512, was engineered by specialists at STAN Holding, a Rostec subsidiary focused on advanced industrial machine tools.

Precision Meets Automation

The SXS 512 performs finishing operations on aircraft components — including the high-precision grinding of turbine and compressor blades for jet engines, as well as other critical parts. The entire process is fully automated, eliminating human error and ensuring consistent quality across production batches.

Smart Engineering for Tough Materials

Capable of processing up to ten different materials — from hardened steels to heat-resistant nickel alloys — the SXS 512 integrates electronic geometry control systems to maintain micron-level accuracy. Every stage of the process, from program creation to real-time monitoring, is managed through proprietary software called the ‘Comfort Operator Interface.’

A New Milestone for Russian Manufacturing

The introduction of smart machining systems like the SXS 512 marks a significant leap forward for Russia’s precision engineering sector. STAN Holding continues to develop digital machine tools tailored to various industries, reinforcing the country’s capabilities in high-tech manufacturing and reducing dependence on foreign industrial equipment.
