AI Will Help Russia Determine Where to Build EV Charging Stations
Rosatom and Yandex are teaming up to build a smart, AI-driven charging network that could accelerate the country’s shift toward electric transport.

Russia is moving toward an intelligent nationwide charging infrastructure. Rosatom and Yandex have joined forces to develop a system that uses a specialized Yandex AI model to analyze millions of anonymized mobility data points—predicting future demand and identifying the best locations for new EV charging stations. The project marks an important step toward large-scale adoption of environmentally friendly transport.
Engineering Expertise Meets Digital Ecosystems
The partnership is built on the synergy between Rosatom’s engineering expertise in physical infrastructure and Yandex’s powerful digital ecosystem. Rosatom’s charging stations will be integrated directly into familiar consumer services—Yandex Maps, Yandex Fuel, and the Yandex Pro driver app—making it easy to find, reserve, and pay for charging inside apps millions of Russians already use.
A “Green” Choice
What makes the project stand out is its use of advanced technology to maximize investment efficiency. The AI engine predicts where demand will surge, improving the economic performance of the network. This sets the project apart from traditional, intuition-driven approaches to building charging infrastructure.
Transport Infrastructure of the Future
The project is strategically significant not only for Russia but also as a real-world example of digital transformation in the transportation sector. As the country’s largest producer of low-carbon energy, Rosatom is creating a closed, sustainable cycle: clean generation → smart charging → low-emission transport. This, the company says, is a measurable contribution to reducing the national carbon footprint.
Rosatom’s plans are ambitious: by 2030, its charging network is expected to expand to 11,000 stations across 53 regions. As of today, 261 stations operate in 15 regions, and the partnership with Yandex is expected to accelerate growth by ensuring both convenience for drivers and data-driven site selection.
Ultimately, the alliance between the two technology leaders is shaping a new model for the transportation infrastructure of the future in Russia.
