Russians are increasingly embracing digital work pods installed in public spaces. These compact, soundproof mini-offices, developed by Rostelecom, are being rolled out in metro stations, shopping malls, and coworking spaces—anywhere people need a quiet place to focus. Inside a digital pod, users can work without distractions, hold a business meeting, or make an important call.

Each pod is equipped with a smart climate and lighting control system, power outlets and ports for computer equipment, and built-in digital panels that support high-quality image display.

Four Thousand Bookings During the Pilot Phase

Over three months of pilot operation, the acoustic digital pods were booked nearly 4,000 times at two Moscow metro stations. On average, users spent just over 30 minutes inside. According to Rostelecom’s press service, demand surged ahead of the New Year holidays, as people tried to wrap up tasks as quickly as possible and used every available opportunity to work.

“At first, the strong interest in the pods was largely driven by curiosity—up to 60 percent of bookings were made simply to try them out. Now we see that users have truly embraced their functionality. Notably, the average session length in the metro is even longer than in pods we previously installed at other locations around the city,” said Timofey Abramenko, Vice President for Product Development and SME Relations at Rostelecom.

The pods have already been deployed in 12 cities. They can be booked via a mobile app, with users receiving a QR code for access.
