Specialists at the Infrastructure and Educational Programs Fund, part of Rusnano, together with Ural Federal University, have developed a computer vision system that enables early-stage detection of dangerous diseases in cattle. It also identifies lameness and monitors weight gain. In addition, the system reduces the risk of contaminated milk reaching store shelves.

Viktor Nichiporchuk, Director for Science at Rusnano, noted that the potential for computer vision in agriculture is enormous.

"It has a vast number of practical applications, from security measures — where you can monitor deviant animal behavior — to a truly enormous range of agricultural uses. Beyond cows, we also have small ruminants, and there is a whole host of problems there that this technology can effectively solve," Nichiporchuk emphasized.
