Russia Begins Mass Production of Domestic Payment Terminals

The new PIN pads meet both Russian and international certification standards — opening a path to replace foreign devices entirely.

Russia has launched mass production of its first domestically developed payment terminals. The devices — created by the company Somers in Fryazino, outside Moscow — have been certified by the Russian Ministry of Industry and entered into the national registry.

Designed for retail use, the terminals comply with international standards and are positioned as full replacements for foreign alternatives. Production goals are set at 60,000 units in 2025, with capacity ramping up to 150,000 units annually.

The exit of global manufacturers like France’s Ingenico from the Russian market didn’t cause disruption — but now, analysts say, the emergence of competitive local devices will make it even harder for foreign brands to re-enter the market.
