Russia Tests New 5G Antenna with 10x Faster Data Speeds

Built entirely from domestic components, the hardware delivers up to 1 Gbps and supports high-density urban coverage.

Engineers at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) have developed a next-generation 5G antenna that transmits data at speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second. The antenna has passed field tests and is built entirely from Russian-made components — a strategic milestone for the country’s telecommunications independence.

During trials at Moscow’s VDNH exhibition grounds, the device delivered performance ten times faster than typical home internet standards, opening the door to broader coverage in densely populated cities. The antenna also supports MIMO technology, enabling it to serve many users simultaneously without speed drops.

Russia is accelerating its efforts to expand domestic 5G infrastructure, including the deployment of locally made base station equipment. National rollout is expected to begin next year.
