Russia to Introduce New “Intelligent” Border Checkpoints
Inspection times at the upgraded crossings are expected to drop to just minutes thanks to new screening technologies.

Russia will equip five additional border checkpoints with intelligent inspection systems, the federal Ministry of Transport said.
The upgrades will target crossings along the borders with China and Mongolia. Portal inspection and screening systems, along with weight-and-dimension control complexes, will be installed. These function much like large-scale X-ray machines, allowing officials to scan the contents of trucks without opening them.
Smart Inspections
Authorities also plan to procure automated under-vehicle inspection systems, smart scanners equipped with video analytics. Each complex includes a platform, controller, IP camera, operator workstation, and cleaning module. The platform records video, conducts monitoring, and stores data. Several domestically developed systems of this kind are already listed in Russia’s official Register of Domestic Software for Computers and Databases.
The new inspection technologies are currently being tested at the Tagirkent-Kazmalyar checkpoint in Dagestan. There, truck inspections take no more than ten minutes. According to the Ministry of Transport, 55 priority border crossings are set to be equipped with intelligent systems by 2030.
